Any graduate student in the Department of Psychology engaged in a mentoring relationship with undergraduate psychology majors is eligible for this award. Examples of mentoring include but are not limited to, the following: mentorship of undergraduate research assistants and academic or career counseling of undergraduate psychology majors above and beyond what might be expected as part of a student鈥檚 paid duties.

Applicants for this award should submit the following materials:

  1. Personal mentoring statement (maximum 2 pages, double spaced)
    1. Description of mentoring experiences, including evidence of mentoring success (e.g., conference presentations, publications, internal or external grant funding, competitive scholarships or internships, graduate school admissions)
    2. Description of mentoring philosophy
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. Supplemental materials, e.g., unsolicited communications from students who have been mentored by the applicant

Applications will be reviewed and award winners will be chosen by the Curriculum, Scholarships, and Awards Committee. Preference will be given to applicants who have not received this award in the past.

The deadline for applications is typically in mid April; students should watch for emails from the Graduate Chair about the deadline for any given year and should submit materials to the Graduate Chair.

CAS Outstanding TA Award

College of Arts and Sciences offers an Outstanding TA Award for student instructors. Winners are largely selected on the basis of their teaching ratings. The Graduate Chair nominates one student from each of the experimental and clinical sections each year, if there are enough qualified students instructors to nominate (have to have taught for two consecutive semesters, both with high teaching ratings). No other application is needed for this award. View a list of recent psychology graduate students who have won this award.

Teaching Certificate

The department offers a teaching in psychology certificate, but the processes are currently being updated. See your DCT or DET if you are interested in completing it.
