Applied microeconomics research uses empirical data and quantitative methodologies to examine the real-world applications of microeconomic theory, generating evidence-based insights to tackle policy-relevant questions across a wide range of subfields within microeconomics.
Economics Department
Economics students explore how consumers make decisions about buying, selling, working, voting, smoking, drinking, dating, attending classes, breaking laws, going to the doctor and scores of other choices humans make every day.
They look at why firms decide what to sell, how much to pollute, who to hire and how much to pay. They examine why governments tax and spend and what this does for (or to) their citizens. And lots more.
Decision Making: from Wall Street to Kitchen Tables around the World
You'll find our faculty where markets, government and individuals around the world are making decisions that impact the fate of nations and the struggles of families.
We study the choices people make that impact poverty, economic growth, the environment, crime, family decisions, and much more.
