Journalism Minor
The Journalism minor provides students with a broad understanding of how media functions within society, along with foundational knowledge of news reporting theories and methods. The minor helps students communicate information about their major disciplines to a wide audience, across multiple media platforms. The journalism minor is especially valuable for students who wish to enhance their storytelling, writing and critical thinking abilities in a media-driven world.

Curriculum
The Journalism minor requires completion of a minimum of 18 semester hours. The minor provides students with a strong foundation in media literacy, writing, and the societal impact of journalism.
Required core courses teach students to communicate effectively across print, broadcast and digital formats; critically examine the ethical responsibilities of journalists and the media's influence on public perception; and explore gender, race, and class in journalism and mass media. Together, these courses equip students to analyze, produce, and responsibly share information across a wide range of platforms.
Career Opportunities
By completing the Journalism minor, students will be prepared for careers that require strong skills in media literacy, critical thinking, and a solid grasp of core journalistic principles. This foundation is valuable in a wide range of fields, including public relations, communications, digital media, and policy analysis, where the ability to interpret and convey information clearly is essential.
