Global Conversation Partners Program
Non-OPIE students attending »¨¼¾´«Ã½ are invited to become conversation partners for all full-time OPIE students. Students spend at least one hour each week speaking English with their conversation partners.

International Conversation Hour
»¨¼¾´«Ã½ students and members of the »¨¼¾´«Ã½ and Athens communities are cordially welcome to attend the weekly International Conversation Hour hosted by the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE).
Conversation Hours are held every Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Jefferson Hall, Room 160.
This year, we are pleased to partner with the OHIO Honors Program in hosting the event. Please come and enjoy an hour of cultural exchange and meet new friends.

OPIE Lecture Series
OPIE students gain the valuable experience of hearing academic lectures, practicing note-taking, and engaging in discussions through attending this series of lectures. The lectures, given by university and community members, aim at helping students adjust to university life, learn about activities and organizations in »¨¼¾´«Ã½ and Athens, and become aware of some important issues in the community.

OPIE Ambassadors
OPIE Ambassadors is an organization of students who represent OPIE for the purpose of improving their language learning experience and leadership skills. OPIE Ambassadors represent OPIE at other »¨¼¾´«Ã½ events, plan activities and projects for OPIE students, and communicate with many kinds of people from all over campus, both inside and outside of OPIE.

Trips and Activities
Each year, several fun trips and events are planned. Past trips and events have included the Columbus Zoo, Jeffersonville shopping, Hocking Hills, bowling nights, and picnics and boating at Strouds Run.

International Week
Each year the Office of International Student and Scholar Services coordinates International Week. This is a week-long spring celebration ending with a street fair on Court Street. OPIE encourages all students to become involved in these activities, as it is a good opportunity for cross-cultural understanding.

Global Voices Video Gallery
The video project Global Voices at »¨¼¾´«Ã½ aims to increase »¨¼¾´«Ã½ faculty, staff, and students’ awareness of the issues specific to international students on campus, their life in Athens, and their adjustment to the American system of education. The videos capture international students reflecting on their experiences at »¨¼¾´«Ã½, challenges they face, and the benefits of the immersion into the diverse campus community. They also give tips to the new international students, faculty, and staff on how to enhance their global experience at »¨¼¾´«Ã½.
International students discuss some major perks of Athens, such as its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the striking change of seasons, the Ridges, and the charms of the Athens’ small community.
A Different Kind of Classroom (Classroom Etiquette in Various Classrooms)
International students introduce classroom etiquette norms from various cultures emphasizing the differences they find in the US, such as food, behavior, dress-code, and attendance.
