University Communications and Marketing launches a new chapter of Faculty Newsmakers recognition

»¨¼¾´«Ã½â€™s University Communications and Marketing (UCM) is unveiling an exciting new chapter in its Faculty Newsmakers recognition program, one designed to be more timely, inclusive and impactful.
"Our faculty are at the heart of »¨¼¾´«Ã½â€™s mission — advancing knowledge, inspiring students, and serving communities near and far," said Executive Vice President and Provost Donald Leo. "When their expertise is shared through the media, it not only elevates their important work but also reflects the strength and relevance of our academic community. Through this new approach to Faculty Newsmakers recognition, we can more effectively and more promptly amplify the accomplishments and expertise of our faculty — helping students see the real-world impact of their professors’ work and reinforcing the value of an OHIO education."
Since its inception in 2015, the Faculty Newsmakers program has honored hundreds of OHIO faculty whose research, insights and expertise have elevated the University’s profile on the national and global stage through media coverage. These faculty members exemplify the academic excellence, leadership and influence that define the OHIO community.
Starting this academic year, UCM is refreshing its approach to recognize faculty in real time, on a monthly basis, rather than compiling an annual list based solely on the volume of media activity. Each month, select faculty who have made notable news appearances will be featured across OHIO’s official social media channels and in OHIO Today, as well as be spotlighted on the Faculty Newsmakers website. These highlights will allow UCM to share faculty media mentions and media accomplishments in a more relevant manner, hopefully leading to more engagement on all fronts. A comprehensive, year-end recognition will celebrate all monthly honorees.
Faculty may be recognized for a range of media activity, including:
- Being quoted as an expert in one or more media stories
- Having research or creative work covered by multiple news outlets
- Being profiled in a significant news feature
- Receiving an award or distinction highlighted by the media
This update not only broadens the scope of recognition but ensures that the visibility of faculty contributions aligns with the pace of the news cycle, offering a more dynamic way to celebrate academic achievement and public impact.
Faculty who are interested in learning more about their individual media coverage or would like to request a personalized analytics report can reach out directly to UCM at media@ohio.edu.
