Experts and advocates to lead Mental Health Conference at OHIO Southern

Conversations about mental health don鈥檛 always come easily, but on Oct. 10 is inviting high school and college students, educators and community members to come together for a meaningful dialogue at the annual Community Mental Health Awareness Conference.

The day will feature keynote presentations by Dr. Jason Roop, founder and CEO of the Center for Trait-Based Transformation, and Lindsay Rice, an educator and advocate for neurodivergent learners. Roop, a nationally recognized leader in behavioral health and addiction recovery, will share how strength-focused approaches can reshape prevention and treatment. Rice will offer practical, brain-based strategies to help educators support executive function, reduce cognitive overload and foster inclusive classrooms.

The conference also includes breakout sessions led by regional practitioners. Topics include career readiness for neurodivergent students, the role of music in releasing dopamine and building resilience, how adverse and positive childhood experiences shape well-being, how principles of consent can strengthen interpersonal relationships, and how storytelling through horror, true crime or mystery can help students process challenges and build resilience.

Robert Pleasant, director of student services at Ohio Southern, said the conference is designed to be both informative and practical.

鈥淥ur goal is to create a space where the community can learn from leading voices in the field while also recognizing the importance of caring for ourselves and each other,鈥 Pleasant said. 鈥淢ental health affects every family and every workplace. By coming together for conversations like these, we can reduce stigma and strengthen the support systems our region needs.鈥

General registration is $35, while students may register at no cost. Continuing education credit is available for Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky attendees. See the for a full agenda, presenter bios and registration details.
