花季传媒 Chillicothe to offer energy science workshop for educators

花季传媒 Chillicothe and the Patton College of Education, with support from National Grid Renewables, are offering a continuing education graduate credit course on energy science for middle and high school science teachers on Saturday, July 19, and Saturday, Aug. 2, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The course will take place primarily in Bennett Hall at 花季传媒 Chillicothe and it will include a site visit to one of the NGR solar farms in the area on the second day of the course.

鈥淲e're designing the course to include hands-on activities that specifically demonstrate how scientific methods are applied to the study of energy systems,鈥 said Michael Koop, assistant professor of instruction at 花季传媒 Chillicothe. 鈥淲e'll also be emphasizing how these activities can be modified for use in teachers鈥 classrooms for students of various ages. The general goal of the course is to introduce topics related to energy production with particular focus on renewable/sustainable energy technologies and current energy challenges.鈥

Enrolled participants can earn one graduate credit for professional development requirements, but this course cannot be used towards any 花季传媒 degree requirements. There are no pre-requisites but a basic understanding of algebra will be beneficial. Participants will pay a $35 application fee and can earn one graduate credit at a cost of $161 (in-state rate) or $180 (out-of-state rate). All materials required for in class activities will be provided. Access to the internet and to a smart phone device will be beneficial for outside of class work.
