Jieun Lee
Collaborative Pianist
Jieun Lee enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, collaborative pianist, educator, and trained organist. In the 2024–2025 season, she invited to perform at the 60th American Liszt Society Festival and »¨¼¾´«Ã½â€™s Woodwind Day, and to collaborate with guest artists from Western Carolina University and the University of Louisville. A new member of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs since 2024, Lee continues to contribute to today’s evolving classical music landscape.
Lee made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2017 as a top prizewinner in the American Protégé International Piano Competition. Recent accolades include second prize at the 2025 Charleston International Music Competition and the gold medal at the 2024 WPTA Finland International Piano Competition. In 2023-2024, she presented a recital at Steinway Hall, New York. Among her other achievements, she received an Honorable Mention in the 2021 Wideman International Competition, achieved first prize in the 2015 MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition in Missouri, and earned numerous top prizes in competitions across the USA and South Korea.
As a sought-after collaborator, Lee was featured on the original soundtrack of Netflix’s acclaimed documentary The Social Dilemma. She has performed with the Martha Graham Dance Company as part of UGA’s Performing Arts Center series, premiered new music with the UGA Wind Ensemble at the 2023 CBDNA National Conference, and served as a featured harpsichordist under Joseph Lin at the Chamber Music Athens festival. A champion of cross-genre projects, she collaborated with hip-hop artists from the Athens, Georgia area through the Athens Hip Hop Harmonic initiative. Her recordings include contributions to "Easter, 1906" and "The Song We Sing" with the Missouri State University Chorale and conductor Cameron F. LaBarr.
In 2025, Lee received her DMA from the University of Georgia under the mentorship of Liza Stepanova, where she was honored with the Andrew H. & Carol Inman Heyward Graduate Award for outstanding doctoral work. She previously earned degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder and Missouri State University, studying with Hye-Jung Hong, Jeremy Chesman, Jennifer Hayghe, and Alejandro Cremaschi. She has performed in master classes for renowned artists such as Ann Schein, Stephen Hough, Martin Katz, Roger Vignoles, Mikhail Voskresensky, John Harbison, and Lowell Liebermann.
Lee served as a piano instructor at the UGA Community Music School and the CU Boulder Youth Piano Program, and as a Lecturer at the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music. In 2023, she joined the faculty at »¨¼¾´«Ã½â€™s School of Music as a full-time collaborative pianist. In recognition of her contributions, she received the 2025 Richard Wetzel Music Faculty and Staff Appreciation Award. She was also recently appointed Master Teacher of Piano at the Athens Community Music School.
