Collaborative Pianist

A native of South Korea, Dr. Hanna Chung is a collaborative pianist whose artistry spans chamber music, vocal and instrumental accompanying, and large ensemble performance. She currently serves as Collaborative Pianist at 花季传媒鈥檚 School of Music, where she works with students and faculty across all areas, coordinates the collaborative piano program, and mentors young pianists. She previously served on the faculty of Westminster College in Pennsylvania.

An active performer, Chung has collaborated with distinguished artists including Jake Heggie, Joseph Alessi, Christopher Martin, Roger Vignoles, and Warren Jones. Her versatility has led to engagements with choir, wind ensemble, and orchestra, with performances at major venues including the Long Center, Kauffman Center, and Meyerson Symphony Center. Her work with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble culminated in their performance at the 2017 College Band Directors National Association conference and the subsequent release of Adam Schoenberg鈥檚 Symphony No. 2, Migration with Reference Recordings. Passionate about contemporary repertoire, Chung also enjoys premiering new works and was featured at the 2022 International Trumpet Guild Conference鈥檚 New Works Recital, performing Cody Ortz鈥檚 ...and streetlights will fade for solo trumpet and piano.

Chung spends her summer as an instrumental collaborative pianist at Interlochen Arts Camp, where she coaches and performs with students from around the world. Her festival appearances also include the Aspen Music Festival and School, Brevard Music Center, and Bay View Music Festival.

Chung earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, where she held a teaching assistantship. Her doctoral thesis, Application of Visualization in David Biedenbender鈥檚 Images (2008), reflects her interest in innovative approaches to performance. She also holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music from the Eastman School of Music.
