Chillicothe Classroom & Specialized Equipment

All classrooms on the »¨¼¾´«Ã½ Chillicothe Campus are equipped with screens or projection surface, video projectors, multimedia instructor station (computer, DVD/VCR, ceiling mounted speakers, audio amplifier, and digital presenter/document camera). Additional equipment is available upon request. 

If equipment in your classroom is not working, please do not remove the equipment, attempt to service it, or remove equipment from another classroom; instead, please call the IT Help Desk for assistance: 740.774.7212 or 740.774.6079. Help Desk personnel will come to the classroom and resolve the issue.

How To Use Classroom Equipment

Each classroom instructor cart offers a variety of equipment to ensure faculty have what they need to teach effectively. To ensure you can operate the equipment, we have created a guide to offer general instructions as well as instructions specific to devices within the cart. 

To get started, familiarize yourself with the cart:

  • All equipment on the classroom instructor cart is operated using the AV Switch Box (figure 1), located on top of the instructor station.
  • All remote controls for the instructor cart equipment are located in the side drawer of the instructor station
  • The Epson projector remote controls the Smart Projector and the volume of all audio sources in the instructor station

General Instructions For Each Use

  • Please shut down the computer, DVD/VCR, Epson document camera, Epson interactive pens, and turn off the projector when finished. This will extend the life of the computer, projector bulb, and extend the battery life in the in interactive pens
  • Press the "Select" button on the Switch Box to select/change the equipment source being sent to the projector. The light will show the source (listed on the label above the input lights) with each press of the select button. Once source 4 (Laptop VGA) is reached, the switch will cycle back to source 1 (HDMI Input)

Output From Computer To Projector

  • To send output from the Computer to the projector, turn on the computer and press the "Select" button (Red Arrow) on the Switch Box (figure 1) until the Computer (2) is selected.
    • If the computer video doesn't appear on the screen, make sure the input source selected on the projector is set to "HDMI" and the Computer screen input is set to "Auto"
  • Audio from the computer (not muted) is controlled with the "Volume" buttons on the Epson Projector remote

Operating the DVD/VCR Player

The DVD/VCR player is located inside the podium.

  • To operate the DVD/VCR player, turn on the DVD/VCR player and press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until the DVD/VCR (3) is selected
  • With the Funai remote, select either DVD or VCR
    • If the video from the player doesn't appear on the screen, press the "Select" button on the Switch Box until the DVD/VCR is selected again
  • Audio for the DVD/VCR player is controlled with Volume buttons on the Epson remote (see 2CH audio note above - Figure 2)
    • If video output from the DVD/VCR is poor or not viewable, verify that the HDMI setting is 1080 - NOT 1080i using the HDMI button on the DVD/VCR remote. It will cycle from 480, 720, 1080, and then 1080i
  • Make sure that the RED 2CH/5.1CH audio lamp is not illuminated when using the DVD/VCR interactive player (Circled in Red - figure 1
    • The audio may/will sound garbled
    • Use the Switch Box remote and press the 2CH button the change the setting (figure 2)
  • When finished, press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until Computer (2) is selected

Please Note: DVDs may also be played using the CD/DVD drive in the computer.

Operating the Laptop

To operate a Laptop, connect the user-provided HDMI cable or the VGA and Audio cables located on the top of the cart near the Switch Box to the laptop.

  • VGA Connection
    • Connect the VGA and Audio cables located on the top of the cart near the Switch Box to the laptop
    • Press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until Laptop (4) is selected. This will project video and also provide audio
    • When finished, disconnect the laptop, coil and rewrap the cable with provided Velcro strap, and press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until Computer (2) is selected
  • HDMI Connection
    • Connect the user-provided HDMI cable to the laptop
    • Press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until HDMI Input (1) is selected. This will project video and also provide audio
    • When finished, disconnect the laptop, and press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until Computer (2) is selected

Using the Projector's Interactive Pens

  • To use the projector's interactive pens, turn on the computer and press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until the Computer is selected.
    • Note: Interactive Pens will only work with the instructor cart computer, as hardware connections and specialized software provide the interactivity between the computer and projector.
  • Turn on the interactive pens located in the instructor station drawer by using the switch on the pen — a green light will illuminate and then turn off
  • Double-click on the Epson Easy Interactive application located in the Start > Programs > Epson Projector folder
  • The application will open and a menu will be seen overlaying the computer screen.

Using the Epson Document Camera

The Epson Document Camera is located inside the drawer on the side of the instructor station

  • To operate the Epson Document Camera, turn it on and press the "Select" button on the Switch Box (figure 1) until Computer (2) is selected
  • Turn on the computer and go to the Start button
  • Select All Programs > Epson Projector. Scroll down and click on the ArcSoft. If output from the Epson Document Camera, doesn't appear on the screen, press the "Select" button on the Switch Box until Computer (2) is selected and verify that the USB cable is unplugged from the Epson Document Camera
  • Input from the Elmo/Epson Document Camera will be displayed in a desktop window within the ArcSoft software
    • If asked to select an input source, choose the Epson Document Camera

How to Request Specialized Classroom Equipment

The Chillicothe Campus Computer Help Desk offers specialized classroom equipment, which can be reserved by faculty and staff for use in classrooms. Faculty and staff should request all specialized equipment at least 24 hours in advance to guarantee availability. Reservations are made on a first-come first-served basis.

There are three ways to put in a request to reserve equipment:

  1. Call the »¨¼¾´«Ã½ Chillicothe IT Help Desk to reserve and schedule delivery (or pickup for some equipment) at 740.774.7212 or 740.774.6079
  2. Visit the Computer Help Desk in the Stevenson Center
  3. Send an email to OUC-HelpDesk@ohio.edu AND modzelew@ohio.edu AND piercea2@ohio.edu and make sure to include the information listed in the "Information to Include in Your Request" section

Specialized Equipment Available For Reservation

Mobile Laptop Instructional Carts are available to be delivered in Bennett Hall and the Technology and Business Development Center. If external laptop AC adapters are required, they can be checked out at the Help Desk by a faculty member for use during the equipment reservation.

Other equipment is available for reservation and can be checked out and/or picked up at the Help Desk.

MELL Cart

A MELL cart offers 20+ PC laptop computers with a standard software configuration and internet connectivity. The MELL cart can only be reserved in its entirety and partial reservations cannot be honored.

LET Cart

A LET cart offers 20+ PC laptop computers with a standard software configuration and internet connectivity. The LET cart can only be reserved in its entirety and partial reservations cannot be honored.

Mobile Video Conferencing Carts

Mobile Video Conferencing Carts are available for delivery in Bennett Hall, Stevenson Center and the Technology and Business Development Center.

Each cart consists of a 46" or 65" display, a computer with a wireless keyboard, mouse, wireless internet, and a Polycom conference webcam. Software on these systems includes Microsoft Office 2019, multiple web browsers and media players, Zoom, Teams and Google Hangouts.

Podcast/Instructional Recording Space

Podcast/Instructional Recording Space is available for faculty in Stevenson Center 025. Equipment includes: 1 PC and 1 Macintosh computer, each with a YETI microphone in an isolated adjustable mount, webcam, digital presenter/document camera and WACOM tablet. Each computer has a standard software configuration, including Zoom, Teams, Panopto, Audacity and Windows Movie Maker.
